Social clubs for Deaf children during the school holidays ran by Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and Specialist Teaching Assistants.
We offer a safe space for Deaf children to visit in greater Manchester during the school holidays. Through a variety of fun activities and games, we will promote the communication, socialisation and enjoyment of our service users.
We hope to run our 'communication club days' throughout each academic year consisting of: x9 days in the 6 week summer holidays and x5 days spread across the other school holidays.
All food, transport to and from our clubs and activity costs are included free of charge.
WHY?
Access to appropriately supported extra-curricular activities is limited/non-existent for many Deaf children for myriad reasons:
- These groups do not exist
- Affordability
- Transportation issues.
- Appropriate support is not available (e.g. a BSL interpreter).
There is a significant gap in appropriate extra-curricular opportunities for Deaf children in the Greater Manchester area.
We will change this.
Social and communicative isolation of Deaf children is a real issue. During school holiday periods, these children's communicative, social, academic and language skills are reduced simply because they have had little stimulation during these periods.
Activities at our ‘communication clubs’ will promote communication, socialising, language and play at their heart.
